On/In Body Device-Type Wearable devices, despite their innovative technological advances, present various potential problems and limitations across multiple aspects.

From a biological perspective, there are risks directly related to user health. Extended device wear can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions, particularly severe allergic responses in users sensitive to metal materials like nickel. Implantable devices present even more complex issues, including infection risks during surgery, immune system rejection, and potential long-term tissue damage. Additionally, ongoing research examines the potential effects of continuous electromagnetic wave exposure on the human body.

From a technical standpoint, power supply and performance maintenance emerge as key challenges. Limited battery life and charging inconvenience significantly impact user experience, with implantable devices particularly problematic due to the potential need for additional surgery for battery replacement. Sensor accuracy and durability are also crucial concerns, as performance can vary significantly depending on external environmental factors like temperature, humidity, and impact. There’s also a risk of device damage due to limitations in water and dust resistance.

Security and privacy aspects have become particularly critical issues in modern society. Health information and biometric data are highly sensitive, and any hacking or data breaches could result in serious privacy violations. Concerns about wireless communication vulnerabilities, cloud storage security, and third-party data sharing continue to be raised, directly affecting user trust.

From a social perspective, digital divide and ethical issues are major concerns. Problems can arise from limited accessibility due to high purchase costs, user discrimination based on technological literacy, and potential exacerbation of healthcare service inequalities. Psychological impacts such as excessive device dependency, anxiety from continuous health monitoring, and social pressure and stress cannot be ignored.

To address these various issues, simultaneous technological improvements, institutional supplements, and social responses are necessary. Technical innovations are needed in areas such as developing highly biocompatible materials, improving battery efficiency, enhancing sensor accuracy, and strengthening security systems. Institutional improvements are also important, including refining relevant laws and regulations, establishing quality certification systems, and strengthening user rights protection. Additionally, social efforts are essential, such as user education and awareness improvement, support for increasing accessibility, and establishing ethical guidelines.

These challenges highlight the importance of a comprehensive approach to wearable technology development that considers not just technical capabilities but also user safety, privacy, and social implications. As these devices become increasingly integrated into healthcare and daily life, addressing these concerns becomes crucial for their successful and beneficial implementation in society.
